Let’s Talk About Dirty Hair…
This is by far the most asked and confusing question…
Should I wash my hair before getting an updo? The quick answer is no.
What? I can’t walk down the aisle with dirty hair!!! OK, so let me explain.
You know your hair best. You know if your hair gets greasy and oily if you don’t wash it daily. You know if your hair dries out too much if you wash it everyday. Everyone’s head is different.
Freshly washed, squeaky clean hair, as a rule, isn’t the easiest to work with. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t wash it if you’ve gone out, the night before, in the many famous Key West bars, or were hanging out poolside sweating. TRUST ME… no one wants to work with nasty, greasy, cigarette smoke smelling hair.
So here are my recommendations
If you wash your hair everyday, then wash your hair the day of your event. Wash it as early in the day as you can or at least 2 hours before we get started.
if you don’t wash your hair everyday, then wash your hair the night before your event.
Please do not wash your hair right before our arrival to your hotel room. Soaking wet hair is never good news.
Some other tips
It is best to add some product to your hair before it dries whenever you wash it. Mousse or gel will help get your hair ready to hold a curl.
Dry your hair as you normally would. If your hair is straight, blow drying it upside down creates volume.
If your hair is curly and you want to wear it curly, air dry it or dry with a diffuser. Use your normal hair products to ensure that your curl behaves itself nicely.
Remember, you know what works best with your hair.
If you hair is curly and you want to wear it in a “Grace Kelly” type of updo, flat iron it and we will take it from there.
Hope to have clarified some of the “dirty versus clean hair” confusing questions.
