I had gone to Sephora to replenish on my Murad Vitamin C cleanser only to find out they were out of stock.  On the recommendation of the sales person I purchased Clarins, gentle foaming cleanser for normal to combination skin ($20).  My face never felt so clean, I loved it at first…

Foamy

I you like foamy cleanser, you won’t be let down, this one really delivers in the suds department.  I read other reviewers saying that it doesn’t foam. NOT TRUE. The key is to activate the cleanser before putting it on your face. Place a pea size of the product in the palm of your hand, add water, then rub your palms together.  ADD MORE WATER IF NECESSARY,  and there it goes, bubbles galore.

Squeaky clean

And I mean SQUEAKY clean. The cleanser got rid of everything on my face including the multiple layers of sunscreen applied throughout the day. I placed my index on top of my cheekbone and run it down my face, and I swear I could almost hear it squeak.  It was that clean, but maybe too clean. My skin felt more taught than usual, which makes me wonder about the product mildness, and required way more moisturizer.  The cleanser felt more like a soap to me.

The smell

Clarins cleanser is way more fragranced than I’d like it to be, but not completely over the top so that it is a total turn off.  What strikes me is the fact that the scent is more artificial rather than natural.  I didn’t expected that from a company like Clarins.  Again that soapy feeling.

Clarins gentle foaming cleanser will not find a permanent spot in bathroom.  The way it left my skin feeling tight didn’t convince me that I was doing anything good.  And for $20 it better feel great!  Studio Marie-Pierre rating: C+
