Stila Lash Visor Waterproof Mascara — No Fail Waterproof

stila

For everyone reading this who is a Mama, I hope you had a fabulous Mother’s day, and for everyone else a great weekend.
Mine was spent boating with my family and it was a blast.  I also took advantage of being on the water, diving and snorkeling, to try out Stila Visor waterproof.  Why not.

I coated my lashes around 10 AM, Mr. Studio was actually wondering what the heck I was doing since I never wear make-up when going on the boat… Experiment baby, experiment.

The application went pretty straight forward.  Visor didn’t clumped, curled my lashes nicely and lengthen them some, it failed miserably in the thickening department though.  The wand was skinny, just the way I like it, and made it easy to get around all the lashes.

So off we went on the Key West water with my lashes all made up.  We Snorkeled and dove, and even got caught in the rain.  VISOR didn’t move AT ALL, not a flake not a smudge — It’s like cement, for real.

A little too strong for me, making the removal process rather unpleasant, I definitely recommend Stila Lash Visor for those looking for a truly waterproof mascara.   It won’t fail you.  No way no how.

You can actually see my made up lashes if you enlarge the pictures by clicking on it.  Hilarious, hahaha!

Review: MAC PENULTIMATE

penultimate

I really like the preciseness of liquid eyeliner.  What I don’t like, is when the application goes awry due to a shaky hand — It drives me insane!

For those who love the sexiness of liquid liner look but can’t quite get it, sharpy like liners have made the creation of beautifully bold lined eyes more reachable and, while MAC Penultimate isn’t innovative, it delivers what most pen liquid liners have failed to do, a rich deep carbon black shade.  You still have to be careful when applying it over eye shadows, as the black can easily turn gray, although this can easily be remedied by adding a couple of layers.

A much softer line can also be created.  Line your eyes as close to the lash line as possible, then dip an angled brush in a black shadow such as MAC carbon and go over the liquid liner.  Looks awesome.

The line can be thick or thin depending on your pressure, but is pretty much guaranteed to be crisp and clean.  Penultimate is not waterproof nor water resistant but didn’t move at all after a 12hr day running around in Key West heat and humidity.  A MUST HAVE.

Mac Penultimate: $16.50

Luly

Wednesday May 6, 2009

Luly, love that name, came for a trial a few weeks ago.   She had some hair, some amazingly dark, shiny, long beautiful hair.  Luly wanted an intricate low chignon, and a smooth pouf for the top so as to create a romantic look.  This hair style was perfect for her overall look.

And how about that stunning piece of jewelry –  Nice no?

Shea & Christian

May 5, 2009

Tuesday May 5, 2009

Shea was such a Southern Belle, with the cutest accent ever, and made with Christian a super good looking couple!

I usually do not post that many wedding pictures of my brides, (hey, I’m a make-up artist/hairdresser not a photographer), but after looking at Shea’s wedding, I just couldn’t decide which ones to pick.   Check them out they really speak for themselves. Thanks Julie for sharing!

Frederic, Where Have You been All My life?

May 3, 2009

Sunday May 3, 2009

I went to Sephora last week and got a bunch of new goodies.   Fekkai AU NATUREL was one of them.  More reviews to come later.

fekkai4img_0518

When I think of dry shampoo I immediately see greasy, disgusting, weighed down looking hair … in a hospital.  Sorry for the visual lovelies, but I used to volunteer (way back when) in a San Francisco medical facility, and since a lot of patients were unable to get to a tub, we used to apply on their head a dry shampoo that was absolutely useless.  Ever since then, my opinion of such products has remained abysmally low.

Well, I really feel like I’ve missed out on something HUGE, Frederic Frekkai Dry Shampoo.  Hello!

Although this marvel in a bottle will not replace the good old water, shampoo and conditioner, it will do absolute wonders when in between washes, or if you simply prefer to save your hair from intense daily heat application.  Fekkai dry shampoo will remove the natural oil build up from your scalp, give your locks some bounce back and is practically odorless.
One of my brides aware of the virtue of “second day hair”, but not willing to walk down the aisle with a greasy hairline, used it right before my arrival on the morning of her wedding — It worked impeccably!

I’m sold!

What about you, have you tried dry shampooing your hair?

I liked Gwen Stefani when she was the lead singer of No Doubts and I love her now as a soloist.   She is full of sass, style, has a beautiful voice and always come up with some pretty neat hair.

Cara… For The Pin Up in You

April 30, 2009

Thursday April 30, 2009

Getting Cara ready for her boudoir session with Studio Julie was so much fun.  She was all about being a pin up, I was in heaven.

When she arrived at the studio I put her in hot rollers, then proceeded to airbrush the foundation.
For the eyes, I brushed all over the lids a Yabi pearly white eye shadow.
In the crease, I used MAC espresso and a tad of Paradiso to warm it up slightly.  Go light on the crease you don’t want to see too much color just some definition.
I lined the eyes with MAC penultimate in black (I love that liquid liner –  review coming soon) and extended the line to attain a winged up tip.  I dabbed a black powder over the liquid liner to smooth out any imperfections.
For the bottom, I used the same black shadow.
I placed some false eyelashes and a light coat of mascara, filled Cara’s brow with a dark brown powder; I would have preferred to make them stronger, but I think it would have been too much for her — this was a nice compromise.  On the cheeks I swiped a very light pink .

I first lined then filled her entire lips with Make Up Forever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil in 8C, followed by Make Up Forever lipstick in Hollywood Red 206.

After removing the rollers I teased the base of the curls, being careful not to break them apart too much.

Be Careful When Choosing Your Vendors

April 27, 2009

Monday April 27, 2009

Hope everyone had a great weekend!  Mine was filled with lots of beautiful brides, flowers, cakes, bouquets. Key West is in full out wedding mode, and I’m having a blast.

Not to damper anyone’s mood on this lovely Monday morning, but I want to share a letter sent to me a few days ago by a wonderful woman, Christine.  As you can read below, this bride had a terrible experience with two of her vendors, so bad that she doesn’t even have any pro pictures — heart breaking.

No one should ever have to go through this on their wedding day.  Please be careful when choosing your vendors, no matter where you are.

The posted pictures were taken by one of Christine’s guest.

Raija D.

April 24, 2009

Friday April 24, 2009

Another beautiful bride with the sweetest personality ever.   Raija got married at the Ocean Key Resort and this lovely young lady wanted it all, smokey eyes, false eyelashes AND bold red lips –  love it.

See, who says you have to wear a soft lip when doing a strong eye and vice versa?!  :silly:
